Best TrendSpider Alternatives

Below are the best alternatives to TrendSpider.

TradingView: Best Overall Alternative to TrendSpider

TradingView is the best “all-round” alternative to TrendSpider, as it offers global market data, advanced charts, fundamental & technical screening, backtesting, trading, and a large social community.

Its stock market data covers 70+ global exchanges in over 50 countries. In addition, it provides data on futures (indices, commodities), FX, and cryptocurrencies. Combined, this equates to more than 150,000 assets across the entire world.

Like TrendSpider, this includes extended trading hours. However, unlike TrendSpider, real-time data is not included in the price. Real-time market data requires a monthly exchange fee in TradingView, which you can see the prices for here.

Broad data coverage is just the start, however. Indeed, TradingView is one of the most well-equipped platforms in terms of its analytical tools.

Firstly, TradingView’s charts set the industry standard. So much so, that if you see a third-party stock chart anywhere online, it most likely comes from TradingView. And with so many customizable features, it’s easy to see why:

As with TrendSpider, the charts are kitted out with several automated features like multi timeframe charts, candlestick recognition, and chart pattern recognition. However, as I mention in this TradingView vs TrendSpider review, TrendSpider still remains king of automated technical analysis in my eyes.

TrendSpider alternative

The stock screener also comes packed with more than 220 descriptive, technical, and fundamental metrics. Not to mention it has a separate FX and crypto screener, which include metrics specifically tailored to those asset classes.

In comparison, while Forex screening is possible in TrendSpider, crypto screening isn’t. However, bear in mind that the fastest you can refresh your screener results in TradingView is every 10 seconds, as opposed to real-time with TrendSpider.

Backtesting is also included in TradingView, which allows users to create their own sophisticated trading system. You can test any of the 23 in-built strategies from TradingView, the thousands of strategies shared by fellow users, or you can code advanced trading strategies using the Pine Editor.

TradingView backtester

In addition to these technical analysis features, there are also some handy fundamental analysis tools worth mentioning. In particular, you can access all sorts of historical fundamental data, including 7 years of financial statements, valuation and profitability ratios, and dividends.

What’s more, you can plot over 100 fundamental fields on your stock charts. In many cases, this data stretches back 20 years. Unfortunately, this fundamental angle is something that TrendSpider lacks.

TradingView fundamental charts

However, the real linchpin of TradingView is its 50 million-strong community, which provides a whole host of pooled resources and online trading tools to bounce ideas off each other. This includes a community-built library of over 100,000 custom indicators and strategies shared by fellow users.

TradingView social community

The network effects from having so many people sharing their thoughts – whether that be trading ideas, strategies, or educational content – brings so many benefits that you just can’t find anywhere else.

Meanwhile, the only social aspect behind TrendSpider is a Discord channel with over 3500 members.

If you like the sound of TradingView, you should check out these TradingView alternatives as well.

Trade Ideas: Best Day Trading Software

Trade Ideas was specifically designed with day traders in mind. It’s real time scanner comes packed with more than 40 pre-configured day trading strategies and over 500 price alerts & filters. It also has around 48 pre-built “channels”, which essentially serve as dedicated workstations for popular day trading “themes”. These include:

  • Explosive Winners
  • Premarket
  • Penny Movers
  • Short Squeeze
  • Tech Titans
  • Buzz Social Sentiment

The important thing to note is that everything is endlessly customizable: the scanning criteria, screen layouts, and chart settings. Admittedly, it can take a bit of getting used to, but there is no doubt that Trade Ideas offers the most complete toolkit for short-term, active traders.

best TrendSpider alternative for day traders

Another thing that Trade Ideas prides themselves on is the speed of their real time market data and signals. Their servers are located directly next to the exchanges, which means alerts are delivered with zero latency. Needless to say, this is vital for serious day traders and gives you an enormous leg-up over the competition.

However, the real pièce de résistance is their AI trading assistant, “Holly”. Holly backtests over 60-million trading scenarios overnight and then uses artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to pick low-risk, high probability winners in real-time. Moreover, you can automate algorithmic trading strategies through the Brokerage Plus module if you have an Interactive Brokers or E*Trade account.

Holly AI

In contrast, TrendSpider doesn’t offer any broker integrations, so you can’t trade from within its platform. However, you can route any automated trading strategy through your broker by connecting with bot services like SignalStack. Unfortunately, this requires knowledge of webhooks, so is only a workaround solution to full-scale automated trading.

Trade Ideas also has a backtesting module called “Oddsmaker”, which lets you test the historical performance of any trading strategy on up to 65 days of historical data. This is less advanced than TrendSpider’s backtester, but sufficient to analyse short-term trading strategies, in my view.

MetaStock R/T Xenith: Best for Backtesting Trading Strategies

MetaStock R/T (Real Time) is another superb TrendSpider alternative, in large part due to its partnership with Refinitiv Xenith. Xenith provides the real-time data to MetaStock and essentially serves as a slimmed-down version of Refinitiv’s famous Eikon platform – the main competitor to Bloomberg.

Like a Bloomberg terminal, Xenith provides a “one-stop shop” for cross-asset data analytics and news coverage across global financial markets.

This includes real time economic, stock market, and individual company news from Thomson Reuters. It also includes a broad range of economic indicators and fundamental data on stocks, from financials, to earnings estimates, and much more.

In addition, the fundamental screener lets you perform screens across a wide range of fundamental metrics, which you can then import into MetaStock R/T for further technical analysis.

MetaStock R/T provides the advanced, real-time charting software for Xenith, which combined, provide all of the investment tools necessary to conduct in-depth technical and fundamental analysis.

However, each asset class and market requires additional exchange fees to access their real-time data. In contrast, real-time data is included in the price of all TrendSpider plans – even if it is just limited to the US.

TrendSpider alternatives for backtesting

While the price of MetaStock may be steeper compared to TrendSpider, you get what you pay for at the end of the day. And personally, I think this outfit gets retail traders as close to an institutional-grade setup as possible.

Unfortunately, MetaStock doesn’t come with automated technical analysis features like TrendSpider, which means you have to draw trendlines and patterns yourself. However, it’s stock screener comes packed with close to 280 momentum, reversal, and pattern recognition screens (“explorations”) – which means you’ll more than likely be able to find the price action you’re after.

In some cases, you may have to purchase an add-on to get the screens you want. For example, this list shows every trading system available as an add-on, which we are currently offering discounted prices on. Note, there is a 30-day money back guarantee on all of these, so you can try them risk-free.

While TrendSpider offers better charting features than MetaStock, I much prefer the backtester in MetaStock. Firstly, there are nearly 120 built-in trading strategies for you to backtest, compared to the few dozen available in TrendSpider.

In addition, TrendSpider only lets you backtest a single strategy on one security at a time, which means you run the risk of data mining and obtaining unreliable results. In contrast, MetaStock allows you to test a single security against a single system, multiple systems against a single security, a single security against multiple systems, or multiple systems against multiple securities (up to 5000).

You can even perform optimizations, which lets you finesse the parameters of your trading systems to squeeze out extra performance.

MetaStock also has a forecasting tool, which is a truly unique feature not offered elsewhere.

Essentially, the “Forecaster” studies historical price action to predict how a security will react to certain chart patterns, or “events”. These can be based on any of the 67 built-in event recognizers, such as “new highs”, or a custom pattern drawn by you. Then, it plots a “probability cloud” showing where prices are most likely heading next.

You can use the Forecaster to:

  • Read a detailed analysis of an event’s past performance
  • See the probable outcome of current events
  • Discover to which events a security reacts best
  • Draw custom patterns for recognition analysis

TC2000: Best TrendSpider Alternative for Options Traders

TC2000 wins my pick for the best TrendSpider alternative for options traders, which isn’t an asset class covered by TrendSpider.

Firstly, there is a pre-configured “Options” tab, where you can see complete options chain data for any stock. Here is where you’ll find information on strike prices, expiry dates, and “Greeks” metrics (Delta, Vega, Implied Vol, etc.), so you can perform in-depth options analysis.

best TrendSpider alternative for options traders

There is also an options screener, which lets you screen across 11 different options variables including:

  • Premium (%)
  • Intrinsic Value
  • Time Value
  • Black-Scholes Value
  • Greeks (Delta, Gamma, Rho, Theta, Vega)

However, TC2000 is much more than just an options platform. In fact, it covers more than 100,000 stocks, ETFs, and options in the US & Canada.

It also comes with advanced charting features including over 100 technical indicators and 20 drawing tools. Not to mention the ability to display multiple time frames on the same screen, as well as multiple securities on the same chart (otherwise known as comparison charts).

TC2000 comparison charts

You can also chart around 80 different fundamental indicators on your charts, which lets you see how a company’s fundamentals have evolved over time.

Not only that, but you can display the raw data as a table alongside your watchlists. This can be a personal watchlist or one of the thousands pre-built for you. I find this feature incredibly helpful for eye-balling my favourite stock characteristics side-by-side.

TC2000 fundamentals

In addition, the EasyScan stock screener comes packed with over 70 fundamental metrics, 80+ technical indicators, and 11 options variables. Alternatively, you can use any of the 90 pre-built scans as they come, or as inspiration for your own scans. Experienced users can even program their own screening conditions using TC2000’s Personal Criteria Formulas (PCFs).

Moreover, Platinum subscribers can enjoy real-time results, which makes it a handy day trading scanner too.

TC2000 real-time scan

Also, while TrendSpider isn’t a trading platform in and of itself, TC2000 allows in-platform trading when you sign up for a separate TC2000 brokerage account.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t integrate with any other brokers, so this is the only way you can trade stocks and options from your charts in TC2000. Having said that, it offers very competitive margin rates and enormous flexibility in terms of trade execution.

There are even a whole host of pre-configured options strategies, which you can implement at a click of a few buttons.

Scanz: Best TrendSpider Competitor for News Scanning

Scanz is another platform designed specifically for day traders, which comes with 4 main scanning modules:

  • Easy Scanner: Create quick, easy scans based on basic price and liquidity parameters
  • Pro Scanner: Lets you create more complex scans using over 100 filters
  • Breakout Scanner: Catch momentum trading signals as they happen in real-time, including new highs/lows, volume spikes, and moving average breakout stocks
  • News Scanner: A constant, uninterrupted real-time stream of press releases, news, and SEC filings for all U.S. public companies
TrendSpider news scanning alternative

The News Scanner is especially unique, and not something available in TrendSpider – or most other platforms for that matter.

Not only can you live-stream stock market related news articles from over 100 different sources, but you can also set specific news alerts for stocks on your watchlist, or filter news articles based on certain keywords. Whether that’s earnings releases, partnership agreements, or M&A rumours, you’ll be the first to know about any market-moving events.

Another unique feature to Scanz is level II data, which shows you incoming orders for a stock at various market makers. This gives you a top-level view of a stock’s liquidity, which is a must-have tool for day traders.

best TrendSpider alternative for level 2 data

The charts aren’t bad either. This isn’t to say Scanz is a top-of-the range stock market charting software, however it is surprisingly advanced for a stock scanning platform. It is by no means in the same league as TrendSpider for technical analysis, but definitely an area it has improved on in recent years.

Lastly, Scanz supports broker integrations with Interactive Brokers and TD Ameritrade, which means you can trade directly from your charts. However, it doesn’t come with AI stock trading tools like the ones mentioned earlier with Trade Ideas.

Finviz: Best TrendSpider Free Alternative

Finviz is the best TrendSpider free alternative.

As a free user of Finviz, you have access to delayed charts, stock screening, heatmaps, and 3 quarters/years of financial statements.

Like TrendSpider, the charts come with automated trend line analysis, which are surprisingly accurate and very useful if your eyes aren’t “trained” to spot chart patterns yet. However, be aware that drawing tools and technical indicators require a paid subscription to Finviz Elite.

best TrendSpider free alternative

In addition, the stock screener comes with 67 fundamental and technical metrics, which gives you plenty of choice for building screening criteria. Included in this are candlestick and chart pattern recognition, which I found to be highly accurate during my testing. Unsurprisingly, the range of options are more limited compared to TrendSpider, however it is still a great free alternative.

Finviz stock screener

Unfortunately, the fastest you can update scan results is 3 minutes as a free user, which means it can’t compete with TrendSpider on speed. However, this reduces to 10 seconds if you upgrade to Finviz Elite. Still slower than the real-time scanning in TrendSpider, but perhaps a trade off worth considering for the price difference.

In fact, I show you how to run a “gap up” scan with Finviz Elite in my best premarket scanners review.

And of course, I would be remiss not to mention its data visualization tools. It’s where it gets its name from, after all (Finviz = “Financial Visualization”).

Essentially, the “Heatmaps” and “Groups” features give users a birds-eye view of where the value and momentum lie in markets – across geographies, asset classes, and sectors. This is great for those looking to build a top-down investment process.

Finviz heatmaps

As mentioned, for those who want to unlock more functionality, there is the option to upgrade to Finviz Elite. For a small price, you gain access to more advanced features, such as real-time data, interactive charts, backtesting, and more.

TrendSpider Alternatives Summary

While it is hard to compete with TrendSpider on automated technical analysis, there are still many alternatives to TrendSpider worth considering.

Of these, TradingView is the best overall option, due to its broader data coverage, advanced charting features, and vast trading community.

TC2000 and MetaStock are two other fantastic charting platforms, which offer many of the same technical analysis features that TrendSpider offers – albeit without the automated drawing and pattern recognition tools. TC2000 also has the added benefit of options trading and analysis, while MetaStock Xenith provides real-time global news coverage and unrivaled backtesting capabilities.

For day traders, you are better off with either Trade Ideas or Scanz. Trade Ideas is the best choice in my view, as it comes with over 500 alerts and filters, dozens of pre-configured scans, as well as backtesting and AI autotrading. Having said that, Scanz is an easier platform to use and offers unique news scanning and level 2 data.

Lastly, Finviz is a great free alternative for those looking to replicate TrendSpider’s automated trendline, candlestick, and chart pattern recognition features.
